A new international poster for Martin Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND hit the good ol’ internet over the weekend, and while at first glance it appears to be exactly the same as THIS U.S. RELEASED POSTER, upon further investigation, there are some notable different (and not just the printed language).
For one, Leonardo DiCarpiro’s eyes. Before he’s looking to the right all mysterious and shit. Now he’s starring right into your soul. And two, the image of the island itself. While before it was simply an island that DiCaprio was going to torch with his giant flaming match, the island now appears to be protected by some sort of force field, and a layer of bellowing fog to hide its super secret location.
Yes, the differences are small, but do they have wider meaning? Could DiCarpio’s piercing eyes or the island’s force field have something more to tell us than simply a different take on the same poster? I don’t know… but it sure is interesting, isn’t it? You’d figure they’d just slap the same poster up everywhere with the tagline changing with every country it’s in, but no. Apparently they tweak the smaller things that hardly no one will notice as well.
SHUTTER ISLAND co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Michelle Williams (pictured below x2), Ben Kingsley, Elias Koteas, Max Von Sydow, and Jackie Earle Haley, and hits theaters sometime this October.
