The trailer for Stephen Sondheim’s musical fairytale Into the Woods is here!

For those of you looking forward to Stephen Sondheim’s next big-screen adaptation, INTO THE WOODS, the first trailer is finally here to give us a taste. If you’re unfamiliar with the stage play, it premiered on Broadway in 1987, ran for 764 performances, and won Tony Awards for best score, best book and best actress in a musical. Director Rob Marshall is taking on directing duties, and given his musical experience with CHICAGO, he looks to be the right man for the job.

Take in the Sondheim:

Although it makes sense here, I love trailers that place music at the forefront. There was some controversy in several plot changes that were done to bring the stage play to screen, but writer/composer Stephen Sondheim seemed okay with said changes, so I don’t think I’ll let that ruin my experience either. This looks to give us a nice twist on classic fairytale characters, and I’m really digging the dark, Gothic tones on display. I don’t consider myself a musical connoisseur, but I’ll be first in line to check this out.

INTO THE WOODS, starring Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, and Meryl Streep, will head into the theaters on December 25, 2014.
