It was only 24 hours ago that Moises hit you all with the news that the insanely talented Guillermo del Toro was supposedly offered the directing gig for a GODZILLA/PACIFIC RIM combination. Well folks today we have our answer! Now that didn’t take long, did it?
According to the guys over at HitFix yesterday’s ‘scoop’ was off by just a bit… You see apparently PACIFIC RIM and GODZILLA aren’t combining at all. Yes PACIFIC RIM is similar to GODZILLA but according to HitFix there’s a lot more to PACIFIC RIM than the simple plot we’ve been given (Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.) and we’re promised that when the full synopsis gets released we’ll see that it has absolutely nothing to do with GODZILLA. So you can go ahead and slap a big ‘No’ on del Toro tackling the giant Japanese monster. But what about PACIFIC RIM?
It seems del Toro is familiar with PACIFIC RIM screenwriter Travis Beacham’s work, having apparently eyed the directing gig on a former Beacham project: KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW. So HitFix wouldn’t say it’s impossible that del Toro may be interested in at least giving PACIFIC RIM a once-over, though no official confirmations have been made at all. Actually this is all heresay and until we hear some solid confirmation on any of this information so we’re going to go ahead and write all this off as one big rumor.
