Now here’s an interesting development if I’ve ever heard one…
Pajiba is reporting that Quentin Tarantino, fanboy extraordinaire turned generational auteur, is perhaps entertaining the notion of writing and directing THE SHADOW. Nothing has been made official, mind you, but QT is said to have shown interest after the project fell apart when respective directors Sam Raimi and David Slade passed on it a few months ago.
And for full disclosure, QT still seems to have COME DRINK WITH ME and FASTER PUSSYCAT, KILL, KILL in development, not to mention the ostensible pipe dream that is KILL BILL VOL. 3. Quentin has expressed interest in other projects as well, but nothing has really stuck in the months since mining Oscar gold for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.
And frankly, I don’t think this’ll stick either. First off, Quentin is too unpredictable…he may say one thing one day, another the next. Also, a script for THE SHADOW has already been written by Siavash Farahani. We all know Quentin protects his writing as much as anyone in Hollywood, and even though he did adapt an Elmore Leonard novel before (RUM PUNCH to JACKIE BROWN), I somehow doubt dude’s comfortable working from someone else’s words. If a page one rewrite is in order, than perhaps…but I still don’t really see it.
What says you? Do you think QT will direct THE SHADOW? Do you want him to do so? If not, what should he direct next?
