Most fans of director Paul Verhoeven have a while longer to wait before they get a chance to see his latest film, the rape revenge thriller ELLE. It is set for a theatrical release on November 11th, but only in New York and Los Angeles, with no word on when it might reach viewers outside of those areas. As we wait to hear further information on the release plans, a clip has been released online to give a further taste of what Verhoeven has in store for his audience.
In this clip, the film's lead character – Isabelle Huppert as Michèle – tells a friend a story from her childhood. She does so in a nonchalant manner, despite the fact that her story is about a horrific event: the day her father went on a killing spree. It's very interesting to see how Michèle handles talking about such terrible things.
ELLE has the following synopsis:
Michèle seems indestructible. Head of a leading video game company, she brings the same ruthless attitude to her love life as to business. Being attacked in her home by an unknown assailant changes Michèle's life forever. When she resolutely tracks the man down, they are both drawn into a curious and thrilling game-a game that may, at any moment, spiral out of control.
