Isla Fisher to join Matthew McConaughey in Harmony Korine’s Beach Bum

Harmony Korine is set to kick off production on his first feature-film since 2013's SPRING BREAKERS quite soon, and Variety reports that Isla Fisher has joined the cast of the project. Titled BEACH BUM, the upcoming stoner-comedy stars Matthew McConaughey as Moondog, a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large. Fisher is set to play Moondog's wife.

BEACH BUM will be, according to writer-director Harmony Korine, a "wild, audacious ride, and I can't think of anyone better than Matthew McConaughey to play our hero Moondog, a rebellious charmer in this fast-paced, uplifting and irreverent comedy." Taking place in the extreme south of Florida, BEACH BUM also stars Snoop Dogg, who, together with Matthew McConaughey, will play "somewhat depressive marijuana smokers, in the spirit of Cheech and Chong." Korine also hopes that the film will go where no stoner-comedy has (legally) gone before, with a little old fashioned Smell-O-Vision. In an interview with Telerama earlier this month, Harmony Korine said:

I would very much like to have the film, when it's released, be shown in rooms that spread curls of marijuana [smoke]. It is possible in some states, such as California, that have legalized this drug for [medical use]. We already have thirty rooms that have accepted.

As for Isla Fisher, she will next be seen in TAG, an upcoming New Line comedy which features a group of friends who have kept a game of tag going for years and stars Ed Helms, Jeremy Renner, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, Annabelle Wallis, and Rashida Jones. Fisher will play the wife of Ed Helms' character, who is the brains behind this latest and most important tag game in the men’s lives. TAG will hit theaters on June 29, 2018.
