It’s Hammer time with new The Woman in Black adaptation

According to Variety, Hammer Films has scored the feature film rights to Susan Hill’s THE WOMAN IN BLACK, based on the best selling novel of the same name, about a young lawyer who is ordered to travel to a remote village to take care of a deceased client’s papers. The young man glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black during his stay, leading to the uncovering of a tragic secret.

Since it’s coming from Hammer Films, it could have been called POOP ON A STICK and I’d be excited for it–it’s just so nice to have Hammer back in the saddle again. But as it’s a story that’s actually pretty cool… well, that makes it all that much better.

Hammer has signed EDEN LAKE director James Watkins to helm the project, with Jane Goldman to adapt the book into movie form (she also adpated KICK-ASS and STARDUST).

This flick screams Hammer for some reason… the remote village aspect? Yeah, that’s probaly it. Hopefully they’ll sign on someone amazing, like Nicolas Cage, in which he can try his best to recreate the awesomeness of THE WICKER MAN, except this time at a different remote village. Or maybe not.
