It’s official: Elijah Wood set to go psycho in the Maniac remake!

Before we closed our doors for the weekend I made sure to tell you guys about a little snippet the Bloody-Disgusting guys were teasing: Apparently Elijah Wood was in the running to headline the upcoming MANIAC remake. I know, I found it hard to believe as well.

Alas with a confirmation coming in from Deadline New York it does indeed seem like Elijah Wood will be toplining the reboot of the classic slasher! Elijah Wood as a murdering psychopath?! … Really? As much as I want to believe Wood will kill in the role, pun inteded, I just can’t see it. Know what I mean? Here’s hoping I’m wrong.

Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.

Franck Khalfoun is set to direct the genre romp for producers Alexandre Aja and Gregory Lavasseur. If all goes according to plan MANIAC will be shooting later this year.
