J-Horror is yesterday; India’s preparing to unleash I-Horror!

As the headline suggests, it seems as though India might be making a move to become the next big thing in international horror.

According to Variety, Indian production company Pritish Nandy Communications has teamed with U.K. sales company High Point Media to create a new genre of Indian horror and paranormal films, described by the companies as I-Horror. Evidently, these flicks will get a wider international distribution that your average Indian production.

First up will be THE ACCIDENT, starring Shiney Ahuja and Soha Ali Khan (pictured below), and directed by Abhijit Chowdhury. Two more I-Horror titles, THE PILGRIM EXPRESS directed by Sanjay Khanduri, and OF BROTHERS AND SISTERS by Kushan Nandy, are due to go into production shortly.

High Point’s Carey Fitzgerald said: “As with the J-Horror phenomenon, which is distinctly rooted in Japanese culture that is also exportable, I-Horror will be the new by-word distinguishing genuinely scary films that, by their vibrant colours and character, unmistakably herald from India but also tap into a wider consciousness.”

As for THE ACCIDENT, it’s about a couple moving from California to India, and meeting with an accident soon after. The woman loses her child, creating an emotional rift between the couple. Life takes an eerie turn after they move to a certain bungalow. There on, the condition of the girl’s mind deteriorates, and she’s convinced she is haunted by apparitions living in the darkest corners of their new home.…

Naturally, Hollywood is probably following this development with baited breath, because now they’ll potentially have a new crop of movies to remake.
