What does Jack Lowden have to say about the James Bond rumors?

The Search for Bond, James Bond

Amazon MGM Studios is taking their sweet time with casting the next 007. As the new era after Daniel Craig begins, the talent behind the scenes look stronger than ever with Steven Knight penning the film and Denis Villeneuve on board as the enthusiastic director. It has been reported that the final round of screen tests were being held a couple of weeks ago and names like Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, Josh O’Connor, Jacob Elordi, Jack O’Connell and Richard Madden has been thrown around.

Jack Lowden’s Response

Jack Lowden is currently enjoying his success on the show Slow Horses, but he has also been named as one of the front-runners for the next James Bond. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lowden has addressed the ongoing rumors in a new interview with British GQ (as well as responding to Gary Oldman’s endorsement of him). Lowden has stated,

It’s all very flattering. It’s nice to be mentioned — for any role — and I’m just not really going to add to the noise. It’s very nice, and Gary’s a sweetheart. It’s particularly lovely, coming from someone like him. But I don’t really listen to it.”

Gary Oldman’s Endorsement

The legendary Gary Oldman is Lowden’s co-star on Slow Horses and while there haven’t been any announcements, Oldman seemed to have let it slip that the studio has already chosen their star. Despite not knowing, he still shows his support for Lowden in the role, saying, “It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist…we’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Denis Villeneuve

The writing/directing team behind the film is already pretty impeccable, with Denis Villeneuve chosen to direct the next movie. “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory,” said Villeneuve. “I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.“
