Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan square off in first trailer for The Foreigner

The first trailer for Martin Campbell's THE FOREIGNER has arrived, featuring a showdown between two iconic actors; Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan stars as a shady government official who may hold the key to information relating to the bombing death of Chan's daughter, which puts him directly in the crosshairs (and spinkicks) of Chan. There's plenty of cool-looking action spread throughout this trailer and the prospect of Chan and Brosnan facing off is pretty damn cool. Check it out below.

Here's the synopsis:

The Foreigner, starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan, is a timely action thriller from the director of Casino Royale. The film tells the story of humble London businessman Quan (Chan), whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love — his teenage daughter — is taken from him in a senseless act of politically-motivated terrorism. In his relentless search for the identity of the terrorists, Quan is forced into a cat-and-mouse conflict with a British government official (Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers.

I'm very optimistic about this one. Campbell directing is a major bonus (although we haven't forgotten GREEN LANTERN…still) and the star power of the two leads is not to be overlooked. While I don't think THE FOREIGNER will change anyone's lives, it does look like a fun little action-thriller with more meat on its bones than your standard DTV style pic of this nature. It's also interesting to see Chan taking on a more dramatic role (similar to his work in THE KARATE KID remake), but not at the sacrifice of his insane stuntwork. This one could be a lot of fun.

THE FOREIGNER hits theaters on October 13, 2017.
