Jackie Chan to throw down in Five Against a Bullet for Sony Pictures

Out of all of the mixed martial artists that I enjoy watching, Jackie Chan is by far and away one of my favorites. In addition to having a deep and abiding respect for his craft, I also appreciate the way he’s managed to innovate his technique throughout the years, by adding bits of creative slapstick to the mix for an engaging, family-friendly presentation. The man is a rare breed, now if only I can get him and Stephen Chow together for a KUNG FU HUSTLE 2: BEAT-DOWN BOOGIE.

Today, it’s been announced that Sony Pictures has set REPLICAS director Jeffrey Nachmanoff to helm FIVE AGAINST A BULLET, an action thriller to be lead by Chan. In the film, five bodyguards from different corners of the globe, with a variety of different skill sets, will work together to protect a Latin American politician during a violent election process. Jackie Chan‘s character, Frank, will lead the team in their mission to keep the diplomat safe from harm. The role comes with a bit of new territory for the martial arts master, as Chan hasn’t really starred in an ensemble film in the past.

FIVE AGAINST A BULLET will be a Chinese co-production between Columbia Pictures and Sparkle Roll (what a great name), Chan’s own production company. Adding to the production team will also be Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Jordan Schur.

There’s no word on when cameras will begin to roll for this action-heavy, martial-arts-related romp, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted if anything major comes about. Meanwhile, be sure to check out Jackie Chan when he voices the character of Sensei Wu when THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE kicks and punches its way into theaters on September 22, 2017.
