Jackie Earle Haley has played a child molester twice over now (in LITTLE CHILDREN and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET), but now he’ shifting into another loathsome villain role, a proponent of slavery.

The actor has just joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN where he will play Alexander Stephens, Vice President of the Confederate States during the Civil War. He’s best remembered for his infamous quote saying that slavery was the “natural condition of blacks and the cornerstone of the Confederacy.”

If Haley brings the same sort of creepy dislikability to this role as he has his previous ones (I mean that as a compliment), he should be a great addition to the cast. He joins Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln, Sally Field as Mary Todd and Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also have parts.
