Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp (the, um, “director” of “HALO”) are teaming up again – or for the first time – to make DISTRICT 9 which is described as being a live-action sci-fi film. Aside from that little is known, although it will be shooting in Blomkamp’s native South Africa, where he made the terrifically strange short ALIVE IN JOBURG. (Give it a look below if you’ve never seen it.)
This new venture not only confirms that Jackson is seriously committed to the young director, but also that HALO won’t be ready to go any time soon. Like, for years. Since it’s always been obvious that investors walked away from HALO partly because of the untested mettle of Blomkamp, perhaps DISTRICT 9 is meant to act as $100 million resume-filler.
