James Cameron calls At The Mountains of Madness ‘epically scaled horror’

It seems if you’re willing to lend your ear to him, James Cameron will talk it off! At least that’s how the talented filmmaker has been acting recently. The trend continues with the folks over at Wired.com, who recently caught up with Cameron and asked him about a number of projects, including AVATAR and AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS!

You see Cameron goes on and on about the everyday talk regarding AVATAR… but the interesting bit here is what the man had to say regarding Guillermo del Toro’s MOUNTAINS, which he is producing. So what did Cameron have to say about the long-awaited project? Check it:

“It’s going to be an epically scaled horror film and we haven’t seen anything like that in a really long time — I guess since Aliens. …. The thing about Lovecraft is that he left a lot to the imagination. He never told you what they looked like. He managed to create a sense of creeping horror without specifics.”

It’s also no secret that Cameron doesn’t lend his name out easily. So what made this project so special?

“Well, yeah, then Guillermo came along. In this particular case, I’m working with Guillermo because I enjoy his company, and a creative collaboration is something that we’ve talked about doing for a long time. ….. Guillermo brings an eye for design that is so original and so quirky and so steeped in the lore of movie design and horror design, but always fresh and unexpected. Frankly, I just want to see what he comes up with and I want to enable the nuts and bolts of the production so he doesn’t have to worry about that. I want to help him how to work in 3-D.”

So there you have it folks. If you weren’t already stoked for AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS you should be now!
