James Cameron on Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity: “I think it’s the best space film ever done”

Some great reviews for GRAVITY recently came in from the Venice Film Festival, and now the one and only James Cameron has shared his thoughts on the film. While filming GRAVITY, Alfonso Cuaron contacted Cameron about making sure the 3D in his movie would be perfect, and about a month ago screened the film for Cameron. Here’s what Cameron had to say about GRAVITY to Variety:

I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time.

Many might assume James Cameron is geeking out just because of how the film looks visually, but Cameron says he’s more impressed with Sandra Bullock‘s performance in the film:

“She’s the one that had to take on this unbelievable challenge to perform it. (It was) probably no less demanding than a Cirque du Soleil performer, from what I can see.” And of the result, he says, “There’s an art to that, to creating moments that seem spontaneous but are very highly rehearsed and choreographed. Not too many people can do it. … I think it’s really important for people in Hollywood to understand what was accomplished here.”

Sandra Bullock‘s casting seems to be the one thing about GRAVITY that has rubbed some movie fans the wrong way, but I think she’ll be outstanding. Like many of you, I’ve been waiting a long time for Alfonso Cuaron’s next film and GRAVITY should be a triumphant return for the talented director.

GRAVITY floats into theaters on October 4th, 2013.
