James Cameron will tackle Battle Angel Alita… in 2017?!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

BATTLE ANGEL ALITA is a project James Cameron has been attached to for as long as I can remember; it was the film that competed for his attention with AVATAR for a long while, until the latter obviously won out. And even though he's got two more AVATAR films taking up his time for the foreseeable future, he hasn't lost touch with BATTLE ANGEL.

According to The Film Stage, Cameron said at a recent conference that BATTLE ANGEL will be his first post- AVATAR film… but we're going to have to wait until 2017 before Cameron even begins writing the thing. That means it's very possible the movie itself won't come out until 2019 or 2020… So, you know, you've got plenty of time to prepare yourself.

Based on the manga series created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990, BATTLE ANGEL ALITA is…

set in the post-apocalyptic future and focuses on Alita, a cyborg who has lost all memories and is found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her. She discovers that there is one thing she remembers, the legendary cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst, which leads to her becoming a Hunter Warrior or bounty hunter. The story traces Alita's attempts to rediscover her past and the characters whose lives she impacts on her journey.
