James Gandolfini was approached about appearing in The Human Centipede 3

I'm currently in the midst of re-watching The Sopranos and discovering all over again just what a great talent James Gandolfini was. The actor sadly passed away in 2013 but still had several films in the can including ENOUGH SAID and THE DROP, but according to THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3 (FINAL SEQUENCE) director Tom Six, it's possible that the sequel to the body-horror franchise may have been among them.

Tom Six mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he had approached James Gandolfini for the role of the governor:

I had James Gandolfini in mind and Eric Roberts. I was talking to them both. But when James Gandolfini read the script he was a little bit hesitant. Yeah, he backed off, and then he died, of course.

The role ended up going to Eric Roberts (did you see that he'll be appearing in over 50 films this year?) and while I very much doubt that Gandolfini would have taken the role, it's still an interesting bit of "what-if" casting. I definitely miss the man, but thankfully he left behind an impressive body of work for us to enjoy.

THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3 (FINAL SEQUENCE) opens in theaters and VOD on May 22, 2015.
