James Gunn confirms Ronan won’t appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

After losing a dance battle, one tends to shy away from any more public appearances. That’s my strategy anyways, and maybe the same thinking behind James Gunn’s recent statement when it comes to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2. In a Facebook Q&A, Gunn confirmed that Ronan the Accuser, played by Lee Pace, will not be returning for the Guardians sequel.

When asked a question about whether Ronan would ever show up again Gunn replied "Who knows, but not in 2, no."

It’s not that surprising considering *spoiler alert* that Ronan is destroyed by the Guardians at the end of the movie. That was a pretty solid way to go out, for now anyway. When asked whether he’d ever consider having Pace return to the franchise, Gunn replied, "Perhaps someday." So it sounds like he’s leaving the door open and holding a never say never policy. I suppose that’s what Infinity Stones are for.

I look forward to a new villain in the sequel, word of advice, practice your moonwalk. Pace recently appeared in The Hobbit trilogy as Thranduil and will be back for season 2 of the AMC series Halt and Catch Fire. His next starring role is in the including a starring role in the Lance Armstrong biopic ICON.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 is scheduled for May 5, 2017.
