James Gunn shares Meredith Quill’s Guardians of the Galaxy mixtape

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY was a breath of fresh air for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who hadn't tackled anything quite so unique before, and the film also included a rockin' soundtrack of music from the '60s-'70s. In the context of the film, much of the the music came from Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) Walkman, which contained Awesome Mix Vol. 1, a collection of songs which were special to Meredith Quill (Laura Haddock), Peter's mother.

James Gunn unveiled another awesome soundtrack for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, and you can bet that the third installment of the MCU series will also include more fantastic tunes, and the director has a special treat for GOTG fans – a new mixtape on Spotify which features many of Meredith's favourite songs, some which made it into the films and some that did not.

"Today I added Meredith Quill’s Complete Awesome Mix to my Spotify account for you to enjoy," Gun said in the Instagram post. "This is part of the list of songs Meredith Quill loved that I chose the songs for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol’s 1 and 2 soundtracks from. Some of these songs almost made it into the movie (She’s Gone) and others I always wanted to use but could never find the right place for them. Whatever the case, I never intended on sharing these songs, as I might use them in future movies. But I think the need for all of us to have some joyousness in these difficult times outweighs all that."

James Gunn is currently in post-production on THE SUICIDE SQUAD, which is the project he took on when Disney fired him as the writer/director of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3. Obviously, Disney did eventually rehire Gunn, who will be tackling the third installment of the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY franchise once work in complete on THE SUICIDE SQUAD, but that's assuming the world hasn't completely melted down by that point.
