James Wan Floats New Images of Aquaman’s Vulko, King Orm

James Wan takes us under the sea with a few new images from his upcoming live action AQUAMAN, as shown via his Twitter account on Friday evening. Based on the classic Silver Age DC character, Wan's interpretation of the King of Atlantis features Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman, a broodling loner who learns that he has been plucked from an ordinary existence to lead an underwater army as the rightful heir to the throne.

According to the comic books, Nuidis Vulko is the chief scientific adviser of Atlantis who later becomes Aquaman's regent when they escape from an Atllantean prison together. Ocean Master Orm Marius is Aquaman's iconic arch nemises, as well as Aruthur's older half-brother. In the upcoming adaptation, Willem Dafoe will depict Vulko, and Patrick Wilson will take on the titular King Orm. Dafoe was originally slated to appear in DC's JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, but all of his scenes were cut before the picture hit the big screen.

Aside from Christopher Nolan's popular DARK KNIGHT series, the DCEU hasn't been quite as successful on the cinematic front as their comic book brother-in-arms, the MCU. However, with James Wan, the man who created the ultra popular CONJURING, SAW, and INSIDIOUS series now at the helm of DC's latest endeavor, it's possible that the tides could turn for the troublesome extended universe. Could the man who has become a household name for horror movies bring the same magic fairy dust to the world of superheroes? Sound off in the comment section below and let us know your thoughts!

AQUAMAN is set to swim into theaters on December 21st, 2018.
