James Wan redefines horror in this Conjuring 2 featurette

James Wan is well on his way to being a genre icon. SAW, INSIDIOUS, and THE CONJURING have only improved his status, displaying his mastery of crafting eerie imagery. In this featurette for THE CONJURING 2 (the second sequel he has helmed himself after INSIDIOUS 2), he explains how he's aiming to redefine studio horror in his latest work. Plus, there's some sweet new scare footage we haven't seen before.

Of course, this is in tandem with the assertion that this sequel to a film that has already had a spin-off is "based on a true story," so maybe it's not quite as trend-setting as he'd like it to be. But if there's anyone to bring horror back to the publicly accepted level of the old Universal classics, it's Wan. Check out the featurette below and see for yourself!

Written by Wan, Chad and Carey Hayes, and David Leslie Johnson, that story is based on

another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren.. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

Joining Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are Frances O’Connor, Madison Wolfe, Simon McBurney, Franka Potente, Lauren Esposito, Patrick McAuley, Benjamin Haigh, Maria Doyle Kennedy, and Simon Delaney.

The film will haunt theaters on June 10th.
