INSIDIOUS has obviously put director James Wan on the map in a whole new way; he’s no longer just “the guy who directed SAW”, but a legitimate name to be reckoned with in the horror field. I suppose helming a $1.5 million-budgeted film to a $75 million worldwide gross will have that effect.
As we told you last month, Wan is circling a thriller called SPECTRE, which has Nicole Kidman attached to produce and star. That’s not holding Mr. Wan back from revving up another project, however. According to Variety, Wan is in talks to direct THE CONJURING for The Safran Company.
Chad and Carey Hayes (HOUSE OF WAX) wrote the pitch for the film, which is supposedly based on the true story of the Perron family, who claimed that for a decade they “lived among the dead” as spirits consistently visited their farmhouse in the 1970s.
New Line Cinema would distribute after Summit Entertainment dropped the ball on purchasing the Hayes boys’ pitch. No start date has been set.
One has to wonder what this will mean for SPECTRE…
