UPDATE: James Wan’s The Conjuring is pushed back for July release

UPDATE: James Wan took to Twitter yesterday to chime in with his own take on THE CONJURING’S new release date. Check out the man’s thoughts, along with the previous report, below:

I don’t know where you guys stand, but the horror flick I was most psyched to start 2013 with was James Wan’s THE CONJURING. With a paranormal premise that recalls (but does not outright ape) his previous INSIDIOUS and a boffo cast (Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor), THE CONJURING sounds like Wan’s most ambitious film to date.

Well, it seems we’re going to have to wait an extra six months to verify that speculation, as Warner is pushing THE CONJURING from its original January 25th release date to July 19th. This puts it in direct competition with R.I.P.D. and the JURASSIC PARK 3D re-release, so I’m guessing Warner is confident the film will perform. If anything, moving it out of the wasteland of bad movies typically associated with January is a pretty good sign of quality (at least commercially).

And hell, James Wan is quality. The guy is the most innovative genre director working today. Hopefully THE CONJURING will keep his streak of great films going. Check out the synopsis below for a good idea of what to expect from the film and talk back with your thoughts below.

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.
