Jason and Ivan Reitman team up for I Would Only Rob Banks For My Family

Jason Reitman is already gearing up his next project and it could signal a return to form for the writer/director/producer. While I enjoyed LABOR DAY and MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN on a certain "that wasn’t that bad" level, they didn’t perform well with critics and audiences didn’t seem to want to find them leaving Reitman with back to back casualties. I’m a big fan of his and am hopeful that this next move is the right one; he will be working on an adaptation of the Skip Hollandsworth article published in the Texas Monthly, "I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family." Reitman’s father, Ivan, is set to produce and Nick Hornby (ABOUT A BOY) is onboard to adapt the true-life story.

The story revolves around a seemingly ordinary Texas family who pulled off two bold heists before they were caught attempting a third. Hornby also wrote WILD, which stars Reese Witherspoon and is currently graining a good deal of Oscar buzz. The Reitman father and son duo last collaborated on Jason Reitman's great UP IN THE AIR (trailer below), which earned a best picture Oscar. Needless to say the story and talent is here to making something great!

Hulu just put in a ten episode straight-to-series order for Casual with Jason Reitman serving as executive producer so it’s unclear whether or not "I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family" will be before or after the series.

Click here to check out Hollandsworth’s article; I was sent it a month or so ago and can tell you that it's well worth the read.
