Jason Momoa on his Han Solo-esque character in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune

We got our first real look at Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" earlier this week in a handful of Vanity Fair photos, and they successfully reaffirmed why the film is one of my most anticipated of the year. The cast of DUNE is almost an embarrassment of riches, and they all seem incredibly pumped to be involved in the film. While appearing on the lock-down version of The Ellen Degeneres Show, Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN) dropped a few teases regarding his character – Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster in the house of Atreides.

Jason Momoa expressed his enthusiasm for DUNE while speaking to Ellen, but admitted that he was a little nervous working with such a talented cast before discussing his character.

I get to play this character Duncan Idaho, who's kind of like this master swordsman who's made the right-hand man to Duke Leto, who is Oscar Isaac's [character]. He's the first person to be sent out to land on Dune, and that's when I meet the character that Javier Bardem plays. I can't believe I had a scene with Javier Bardem! It's him and Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson and Stellan Skarsgård. It's a pretty massive film and I get to be this little—he's kind of the Han Solo-esque of the group. He's kind of the rogue warrior who protects Timothée Chalamet and he serves Oscar Isaac.

In addition to Jason Momoa, DUNE also stars Timothée Chalamet's (THE KING) as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson (DOCTOR SLEEP) as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER) as Duke Leto Atreides. Stellan Skarsgard (THOR) as the villainous Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista (BLADE RUNNER 2049) as his sadistic nephew, Glossu "Beast" Rabban, Charlotte Rampling (RED SPARROW) as the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the emperor's truthsayer, Josh Brolin (AVENGERS: ENDGAME) as Gurney Halleck, a troubadour-swordsman, Javier Bardem (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES) as Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen, Zendaya (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME) as Chani, a Fremen who becomes a love interest to Paul Atreides, and David Dastmalchian (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP) as Piter De Vries, a twisted Mentat. DUNE will be hitting theaters on December 18, 2020.
