Jason Statham plays a thief, again, in upcoming Parker

Jason Statham seems to play two types of characters: thieves and badasses-for-hire. He just wrapped a role as badass-for-hire so for his next film, he’s signed on to star as a thief in the thriller PARKER.

The film is based on the popular book series by Donald Westlake and will follow a thief who lives by a code of honor and sometimes kills people but only when they really deserve it and I’m pretty sure they used the phrase “word is bond” in the description. So does he also exist in an episode of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?”

Joking aside, the 24-something books by Westlake actually make for pretty decent movie material. In fact, Statham would follow Lee Marvin, Mel Gibson, Robert Duvall and Jim Brown as actors who’ve played the character on the big screen (for some reason though, this will be the first time a Westlake book adapted for the screen will keep the name “Parker”).

Taylor Hackford (RAY) will direct the film, making this his first real action film. The film will be shopping itself to distributors at Cannes and presumably would begin filming shortly thereafter.
