Last we heard from SURVEILLANCE, the new film from Jennifer Lynch (best known as the daughter of David and the director of the infamous BOXING HELENA), the lead role had gone to Billy Burke (read that article here). But that was about 6 months ago, and a lot can change while a movie is trying to pull itself together. One of those changes appears to be that Burke is out, since he’s not at all mentioned in the press release given us by Variety today. Instead, the cast list includes Pell James, Bill Pullman, Julia Ormond,
Ryan Simpkins, French Stewart and Cheri Oteri.
Variety’s brief synopsis reads: “Story revolves around an FBI agent who goes to a small town, where everyone lies and no one is safe.”
Our previous scoop was a little more detailed: “An FBI agent tracking a serial killer with the help of his would-be-victims, all of whom have very different stories of their experiences.”
We’ll see how Lynch fares with her long overdue followup to BOXING HELENA (which came out in 1993 when Lynch was just 25 years old). The cast is turning out to be pretty decent, and the concept has potential, especially for a Lynch (a vast array of weird, spooky supporting characters surrounding an FBI agent is a staple of Daddy Lynch after all).
