Jennifer Connelly joins Granite Mountain; Ready Player One adds Win Morisaki

Deadline has learned that Jennifer Connelly has been added to the cast of the firefighter film GRANITE MOUNTAIN (previously titled NO EXIT), joining Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges and Taylor Kitsch.

Joseph Kosinski (TRON: LEGACY, OBLIVION) will direct the movie, which is "based on the 20-member Granite Mountain Hotshots who fought the deadliest wildfire ever in Arizona’s history and were trapped on a mountainside in a circle of fire," and apparently the filmmakers spoke to the lone surviving member of crew while drafting the story. Connelly will play Amanda Marsh, "the wife and 'horse-whispering farrier' of the supervisor of the Tier One team of Hotshots."

In other casting news, the word from Variety is that Japanese singer and actor Win Morisaki has signed on to play Daito in Steven Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE. Production on the adaptation of the Ernest Cline novel, which will also feature the talents of Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller and Mark Rylance, is expected to kick off sometime later this month for its March 30, 2018 release, and will tell "the story of a virtual-reality game creator who offers up his entire company to the best player who can find an Easter egg in one of his many virtual worlds via a game called OASIS."
