Variety has learned that Jennifer Garner has been cast as Bryan Cranston's wife in WAKEFIELD, a big screen take on author E.L. Doctorow's short story adaptation of the original "Wakefield" story by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Production is already underway on the quirky drama, with Robin Swicord (THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB) directing from her own script.

The film will see Cranston as a married Manhattan lawyer who, after his wife discovers he's been having an affair, "sees a racoon in the attic of his home and winds up staying in the attic for several months due to a nervous breakdown." WAKEFIELD has the potential to be a great small movie, especially with Cranston as the lead, and I'm definitely interested in checking out.

Cranston's Dalton Trumbo biopic TRUMBO opened last month (you can read Chris Bumbray's review here), while Garner can be seen next in the Patricia Riggen-directed Christian movie MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN, which is due out on March 18, 2016.
