Though I think most saw the writing on the wall, it’s now evidently official: Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar nominee for last year’s WINTER’S BONE, has landed the role of Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’ THE HUNGER GAMES.
Though she’s apparently a few years older in real life than the character is in the books, Lawrence has seemed like the one to beat these last couple of weeks. Hot off her fantastic turn as a run-down teenager on the search for her father in WINTER’S BONE (really worth checking out, by the way) and soon to be seen in this summer’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, Lawrence has gone from who? to it girl in about half a year.
The synopsis: In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see.
THE HUNGER GAMES will hit theaters in MARCH of 2012.
