Jennifer Lawrence to star in The Dive with James Cameron producing

James Cameron’s THE DIVE has been talked about for a few years now but with nothing to report for so long I had actually forgotten about the film until now. It tells the tragic true story of free diving couple Francisco “Pipin” Ferraras and his wife Audrey Mestre, and the record-setting attempt that claimed Mestre’s life. Back in 2012 Cameron gave up directing duties and would remain producer on the project. Now Francis Lawrence, who directed three of the four HUNGER GAMES movies, has signed on to direct THE DIVE with his HUNGER GAMES star Jennifer Lawrence taking the lead role.

Lawrence will play Audrey Mestre, “who died during an attempt to beat her own world record of 557.7 feet. Ferraras paid tribute to his late wife by diving to the same depth in an attempt that was filmed by Cameron” reports The Wrap. J. Straczynski (NINJA ASSASSIN) is working on the current draft based on a previous draft by Laeta Kalogridis (AVATAR).

There really isn’t too much more to report at this time; we know the film is set up over at Fox where Jennifer Lawrence has a few projects on the go. The David O. Russell film JOY and that little indie film X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Nevertheless, it’s probably safe to saw J-Law can make any movie she wants now and is doing a damn fine job picking them; let’s just forget SERENA happened.
