Jeph Loeb remarks on if Marvel’s The Defenders will join with the MCU

With Marvel having achieved monumental success for their MCU in delivering content for both the silver screen as well as premiere streaming services like Netflix, it comes as no surprise that some fans would want to see characters from both venues share the same cinematic space. I’m not one of those people, but I digress. In talking with Entertainment Weekly, Head of Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb got a tad dodgy when the question of cross-pollination between the two mediums would indeed take place.

Loeb responded to the question he’s been asked (probably) upward of 616 times by saying the following:

You’re trying to trap me into saying, ‘Hashtag, it’s all connected,’” Loeb said with a laugh. “If the story warrants it, we will obviously do our best to have folks cross into each other’s story lines. We certainly communicate with each other in terms of what we’re doing and what we have planned and the characters that we’re using and where it’s all going. Unfortunately for me as a fan, I tend to know more about what’s happening in the movies than I want to know.

Woof. If you ask me, this doesn’t bode well for those hoping to see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil give legal advice to Mark Ruffalo’s The Incredible Hulk, or Mike Colter’s Luke Cage sharing a beer and secret handshake with Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther. Granted, the situation could always change, as nothing in the world of comics (cinematic or otherwise) is ever written in stone.

For me, I like that the Netflix shows continue to tip their cap to the theater-bound MCU, but I’m not 100% certain that I want to see them crossover. It’s just a personal preference, and my thoughts on this could change at any given time, but I enjoy the separate-but-equal nature of the MCU layout, thus far. Although I’m certain that the talented writers of the Marvel films would find a way to make it all work, I do appreciate the grit and grounded vibe of the Netflix offerings not seeping into the loud and bombastic theatrical presentation of Marvel’s tentpole movies.

What do you all think? Would you want to see Jessica Jones hanging out with Black Widow? Does the idea of Thor getting drunk with Iron Fist get you hyped? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Marvel's THE DEFENDERS will triumphantly arrive on Netflix in the Summer of 2017.
