Independence Day 2

Jessie Usher, the lead of Starz’s series “Survivor’s Remorse”, has been cast in the Roland Emmerich-directed sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY, reports THR. Usher will play a central character in the sequel as the son of Will Smith’s character from the 1996 film. While THR never once mentions whether or not Smith will return as Captain Steven Hiller in INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 (he previously passed on it), I wonder if we’ll see him make an appearance now that his son plays a major part in the story.

Beyond that, however, details on INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 are about a slim as they get, so hang in there. The film is set for a release on June 24, 2016—almost exactly 20 years from when the first film hit theaters on July 3, 1996. Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producing. Keep an eye here for more on this one as we get it!
