More calculated subterfuge or truly unwanted exposure?!?
As you know, J.J. Abrams is doing yeoman’s work to keep is new alien yarn SUPER 8 – which he directed under the watchful producorial eye of Steven Spielberg – under tight lock and key. So far, he’s succeeded admirably. However, a new Brazilian trailer for the film is now running under the title DARLINGS and not SUPER 8. Could this be a detail Abrams and company wanted to avoid letting the masses know, or is it simply a translation issue? Hmm, very interesting!
Now word from Paramount has been giving for the change, but it is interesting to note that, before SUPER 8 (the title) was officially announced, rumors had swirled that Abrams was intent on remaking LITTLE DARLINGS, a teenage raunch-com about girls losing their virginity at summer camp. Now that DARLINGS is back in the fold, who the hell knows what the actual film will resemble…
It’s also worth remembering how CLOVERFIELD – an Abrams production – had only been called such in the pre-production phase, until the name stuck so much it officially became the title. We could have similar situation with SUPER 8.
Regardless of what it’s called, the flick hits theaters June 10th. Here’s the skinny:
The film follows a group of teenagers that discover that they’ve captured the image of an alien creature on their super 8 camera.
Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich Gabriel Basso, Amanda Michalka (below), Zach Mills, Ryan Lee, Beau Knapp, Joel Courtney and Riley Griffiths all take center stage.
Alrighty, if you had to choose between the two titles, which would it be? SUPER 8 or DARLINGS?
