JJ not directing MI:4

Speaking with MTV, J.J. Abrams has indicated that in all likelihood, he would NOT be directing MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4, due to his multitude of other projects currently in the stable, but instead will be producing with Tom Cruise. But this doesn’t mean he won’t have a heavy hand in what’s happening in the film.

Abrams said a little about his vision for the project, though danced around the issue of whether or not Cruise would actually be starring.

“I don’t want to give anything away yet, but I will say that it’s a story that will feel consistent with the world that has been created,” he explained. “It’s not a reboot kind of thing. Neither Cruise nor Abrams wanted to work on something that didn’t feel like a worthy successor to the first three “Mission” films, but, as he said, the “story was just so damn cool, and we got so excited about it. My hope is that when the script comes in — the dream would be that we could shoot this soon.”

So if Abrams isn’t going to be behind the camera, who would be a worthy replacement? I would say BOURNE’s Paul Greengrass off the top of my head, or maybe Tony Scott if properly supervised. What do you think?
