J.K. Simmons discusses his approach to Commissioner Gordon in Justice League

Think whatever you want about Zack Snyder's vision for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and how it feeds into your expectations for what he might have planned for the two-part JUSTICE LEAGUE… but at least he gave you some small ray of sunshine to hold onto for the future expansion of the DC Cinematic Universe by casting J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Now it's not as if Simmons is front and center in the role for something like Fox's GOTHAM series, which would be amazing, but it's a nice bit of casting that has you hoping maybe at some point this Universe might come together with fantastic complementary parts like the Oscar-winning actor in place.

As a result of being a part of the DCU now, it was only a matter of time before he started getting asked about what type of character his Commissioner Gordon might be and how he fits into a film like JUSTICE LEAGUE that's heavily populated by superheroes. That opportunity was taken by DP/30 as they talked to Simmons about his latest film THE MEDDLER. While he didn't have too many specifics to offer up for JUSTICE LEAGUE, he did give some perspective on the long game of his involvement as well as his approach to playing Gordon.

I don’t get started on that until June, and my part in the first one is very small. I’m excited to be playing that iconic character in that iconic series… I’m going into a thing that hopefully will be two, three, four, maybe more movies for me, and my part in the first one is really very small. But obviously, we know who the guy is. We know his whole backstory, based on the comic book. So, I’m just gonna finish doing my research on that. And probably not watch the other actors who have played the part, because that is kind of intimidating, honestly, and I don’t think I would find that to be productive. So, I’ll do my take.

Do the research. Play the part. Make him your own. Sounds like a simple enough take on the new Commissioner Gordon who we'll get a small glimpse of in JUSTICE LEAGUE – PART ONE, scheduled for release on November 17, 2017.
