Joaquin Phoenix denies playing Joker in upcoming origin film

Way back in September of last year we brought you guys the killer news that Leonardo DiCaprio was in talks to play THE JOKER in the upcoming standalone film from producer Martin Scorsese. And then, earlier this month, we passed along the rumor via Variety that Joaquin Phoenix (might) play the killer clown in the new film.

As we said in that post, the casting was not 100% confirmed, and today it seems as if not only is Phoenix not in negations to star as the clown prince of crime in the new film, but he doesn't even know there is a JOKER film on the way. Of course, Phoenix could just be playing it cool while out and about promoting his new, film (and that makes TOTAL sense) but all the same, he basically denies the whole thing in the video below.

Check out the video for yourself below and then make sure to hit us up and let us know if you think Pheonix is just putting on a ruse in the comments below or on social media! One way or the other, we'll let you know when we hear more about Todd Phillips’ untitled Joker origin movie.

Until then you can catch Joaquin Phoenix next in director Lynne Ramsay's thriller YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE which hits this April. Check out the trailer below.

Synopsis:

A contract killer uncovers a conspiracy while trying to save a kidnapped teen from a life of prostitution.

The film is written and directed by Lynne Ramsay, based on the novella by Jonathan Ames and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Ekaterina Samsonov, Alex Manette, John Doman, and Judith Roberts. YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE hits April 6th.
