Was “Boogeyman” developed from the ground up?
ROB TAPERT (RT): When we first formed a partnership with what was then Sender, and now mandated to make Ghost House, they had BOOGEYMAN, they had already found a script and said when we were bringing this together, there were various projects that we were looking at and they happened to have BOOGEYMAN. At that time it was actually more of an 80’s monster movie and Steven Kay [the director], during the development process, turned it into more of a psychological movie…so it really kind of changed in development.
Are you allowed to say anything about the EVIL DEAD remake?
SR: Yeah, I can tell you everything that we know, which is that we made the first EVIL DEAD like 26, 25 years ago and we feel like it’s so long ago, that it’s time to bring it to a new crowd, if we can find the right director with great vision. We know that the script can be improved and we know that the characters can be improved, the dialogue, the directing can be improved. And very few people saw the movie on the big screen, so we’d love to see EVIL DEAD on the big screen. We only made about 200 prints.
Would the idea behind that, be that you’d be more faithful to the beginning of the second one?
SR: Nope. I wouldn’t really want to put my paws all over it. I’d want a new, young , hungry director who had a really dramatic vision, to make a brand new picture out of it. You know, something different. I would want to direct EVIL DEAD 4 if we get around to making EVIL DEAD 4, that’s what I wouldn’t want somebody else to do, because I really want to do it. But as far as remaking the “Evil Deads” that have been done, I think a new director would bring things to them that I couldn’t. And I think that would be really exciting to see that happen.
