Fangoria got the news from Mick Garris that he will be handing over the vampire thriller THIRST to GREMLINS director (and fellow “Master of Horror”) Joe Dante. Garris has been attached to the project for quite some time… This isn’t to be confused with the movie of the same name that will be helmed by Park Chan-Wook (see the deal with that one HERE.).
The reason behind this? Garris is getting ready to helm BAG OF BONES, based on the Stephen King novel. This would be Garris’ 886th Stephen King adaptation, I believe.
THIRST is a remake of a 1979 Austrailan horror film, directed by Rod Hardy. Here’s the kooky synopsis (from imdb): The descendant of Elizabeth Bathory is abducted by a cult of self-proclaimed supermen who achieve this state of superiority by drinking from the “blood cows” (read: people) kept at the “dairy farm”, and they try to get her to join them.
I’ve always been a Joe Dante fan, so I look forward to whatever he’s doing (despite his ambitious, but ultimately lame, MASTERS OF HORROR episodes). I can’t tell if this is going to be serious or tongue-in-cheek, but either way I’m glad Dante’s back in action.
