Way back in February of 2008, Jared told you that Dimension had picked up the rights to Joe Hill’s graphic novel LOCKE & KEY. Well, Dimension being Dimension, they never got around to making it (at least it saved them the trouble of making it then waiting a year to release it). So now the rights go to someone else…
Latino Review is reporting that the powerhouse team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (writers of both TRANSFORMERS flicks, as well as writer-producers on the upcoming COWBOYS AND ALIENS) have snatched up the rights for Dreamworks. Interestingly, the site also reports that Frank Darabont wanted to snatch up the property, but was denied. Considering that Joe Hill is Stephen King’s son – and King has strong ties to Darabont – that can be considered a surprising development (if true).
As for the story itself, LOCKE & KEY is about a trio of children who become the caretakers of Keyhouse, a mansion in New England that is full of secrets and magic. The kids discover doors that take them to different places, give them powers and even alter gender and skin color. Behind one door is a dangerously violent creature.
