John Boyega gives a promising update on Attack the Block 2

John Boyega is giving fans a promising update on the status of the long-awaited sequel to Attack the Block, and according to the actor, progress is being made on Attack the Block 2.

Boyega was asked about the sequel by Deadline while attending the premiere of Jordan Peele’s Nope, and here is what he had to say:

“We’re in the lab. We’re cooking, we’re cooking. I sat down with Joe Cornish just literally a few weeks ago. So expect some news soon. We’re still in development but we’re cooking something real sweet. We’ll have something soon.”

Attack the Block was written and directed by Joe Cornish, and it focuses on a teenage street gang led by Moses, played by John Boyega. Predatory alien invaders eventually land on their council estate in South London, forcing the gang to defend their turf against the alien creatures. The film was well-received critically, registering a fresh rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and despite not performing all that well in North America, the film has become a bit of a cult classic with fans. The movie also stars Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, and Nick Frost.

The film did a lot to put Boyega in the center of attention, and a few years later he was starring the hit new Star Wars sequels, while Cornish went on to have his name on Marvel’s Ant-Man, and later made the excellent The Kid Who Would be King.

Do YOU want to see Attack the Block 2 get made, and do you hope John Boyega was right in saying we can expect to hear something soon?
