From the moment I saw John Boyega’s performance as Moses in Joe Cornish’s sci-fi action comedy ATTACK THE BLOCK, I knew that this dude was destined for great things. I pumped my fist high into the air when his role as Finn was confirmed for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS, and now, I find myself chomping at the bit to witness Boyega kicking some kaiju ass in the forthcoming PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING film.
Today, Boyega has posted a new photo to his social media channels that features him looking rather contemplative, yet totally prepared to throw down at a moment's notice. It’s one of those “calm before the storm” poses, if you will. The caption for the photo, which you can read below, simply states: “I am Pentecost, 2018 #PacificRimUprising”. Oh snap! Did Boyega just confirm that his character is indeed the son of Stacker Pentecost, Idris Elba's character from the original? It sure sounds like it!
Based on the first film created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham in 2013, PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING stars actors stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Chen Zitong, Lan Yingying, Qian Yongchen, and Zhang Jin, with cameos by Xiao Yang and Korean actor Kim Jeong-Hoon. Though details about the film’s plot are scarce at this time, you can expect the hype train to pull out of the station at full-speed the moment we get wind of any news at all. For now, we’ll just have to use our imaginations, and gird our loins for when PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING smashes into theaters on February 23, 2018.
