John Krasinski to lead Michael Bay’s Benghazi movie 13 Hours

Things are moving along with Michael Bay's Benghazi movie 13 HOURS as it just landed its first leading actor. Back in October we told you that the explosive director was planning to tackle the movie which recounts the 2012 attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound in Benghazi revolving around the six-man security team that fought to defend it. Back then a lot of you seemed to dismiss the idea of Bay taking on a drama after so many years of dealing with robots in disguise. Well, if you’re a fan of John Krasinski (The Office) maybe you’ll be willing to give it another chance because he's landed one of the lead roles in the upcoming movie.

There are varying reports out there with Variety saying that Krasinski will be playing a Navy SEAL in the film, and THR says he’ll be playing the lead role of security operator Jack Silva. THR also says Krasinski apparently blew Bay away during his audition. This has me all kinds of curious; I can't even remember when Bay wasn’t doing a TRANSFORMERS movie; besides PAIN AND GAIN which, take away the dark comedy, didn’t have much substance. With 13 HOURS he will have to leave the CGI spectacle and humor behind. While this would definitely be different direction than what we’re used to seeing from Bay, I’m all for him changing his game again. The movie is set to go into production this year.

Are you ready to see John Krasinski and Michael Bay take on an action-thriller?
