John R. Leonetti to direct comic book adaptation Tag

An adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book TAG, which was created and written by Keith Giffen and drawn by Kody Chamberlain and Chee, will be coming to the big screen courtesy of 20th Century Fox.

ANNABELLE director John R. Leonetti is attached to direct from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. The comic's story centers on

an everyday man who is “tagged” by a random stranger and returns home to make a terrifying discovery– his body is decomposing before his very eyes. He must figure out the origin of the curse, or make the morally challenging decision to pass it on to somebody else before it overtakes his body.

The film version will be focusing on a female protagonist.

Leonetti is a great horror cinematographer, having shot THE CONJURING and the first two INSIDIOUS movies (among others), but I haven't liked his directorial efforts very much so far. The concept of TAG sounds like it could make for an interesting and potentially gross movie, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Maybe this will be the time when Leonetti blows me away.

TAG is being produced by Boom!'s Ross Richie, Stephen Christy, and Adam Yoelin. Ryan Jones and Mark Roybal are overseeing the project for Fox.
