Actor and vulture John Stamos has announced he will write his memoir. Its origins don’t come from industry expectations or a cheap cash grab but rather something far more heartfelt: the death of Bob Saget.
John Stamos said in a statement that his memoir If You Would Have Told Me is “the book I never planned to write, but after losing Bob, finally becoming a father, and wanting to honor all the colorful people who have made me who I am today, I figured if not now, when?”
Bob Saget, who died earlier this year at the age of 65, of course, co-starred with John Stamos on Full House. Both reprised their roles of Mop & Glo fanboy Danny Tanner and Elvis wannabe Jesse Katsopolis on Fuller House. Bob Saget released his own autobiography, Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian, in 2014. That book probably had far more dirty jokes about the Olsen twins than John Stamos’ will.
John Stamos called the experience of writing his memoir “cathartic and healing and sometimes heartbreaking to dig in and reveal so much.”
According to publisher Henry Holt, John Stamos’ memoir will detail “the surreal highs and devastating lows of a misunderstood heartthrob who has always remained a dorky kid from Orange County, and of his midlife quest to find sobriety and a family of his own.” Readers can expect to get behind-the-scenes recollections of working on Full House, his marriage to Rebecca Romijn, and his live performances with The Beach Boys. You forgot about that one, huh?
John Stamos currently stars in Disney+’s series Big Shot, the second season of which premieres on October 12.
