John Wick will deliver head shots in comic form with his own series

Along with giving us the puppy-avenging, suit-wearing action hero for the modern age, JOHN WICK offered a glimpse into a deep, imaginative world of assassins seemingly ripped out of a comic book. But anyone looking for some kind of comic book or graphic novel depicting our hero would be left on the floor to cry themelves to sleep. Those days are coming to an end, though, as anyone wanting to explore that world of fastidiously-dressed killers in panel form will soon be able to smack down a nickel on Old Man Withers' milk bar for a copy of your very own.

Word 'round the Nerdisphere is the world of JOHN WICK will be officially expanding outside the realm of film and into the universe of comic books as its own series will be brought to life, courtesy of Dynamite Entertainment.  Nick Barrucci, CEO of Dynamite (which will also be giving us comic versions of James Bond and a noir adaptation of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys), called the first WICK “an exciting film” filled with “mixing martial arts action with snappy dialogue and smart writing.” He expanded on the project saying:

As the credits rolled, you were left wanting more, and it was obvious that they had the makings of a franchise. We were quick to pursue the opportunity to develop a comic book series, and are thrilled to have been granted the rights to tell all-new stories with the character!

More details on the comic book series will be unveiled in the coming months, but for now we don’t have any details outside of its planned 2017 release date. Unless, that is, you consider sketches as “details”, which in that case we have some super sweet “details” for you!

The first thing I thought of after seeing WICK was, “either this is, or has to be, a comic book.” The world-building was one of my favorite parts of the flick, and Barrucci hit the nail on the head by saying you knew they had a franchise on their hands the second the credits rolled. There's so much of Wick's (Keanu Reeves) life to explore…so many gold coins to see earned. Of course we will be seeing more of said world in JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO, but what about after that? Am I supposed to wait for the third movie like some freckled-faced goon? I need WICK pairing up with his dog sidekick, and I need it stat!

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO will bring the pain February 10.
