Oh, you thought the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard saga was over? Well, the sequel is in full swing, as Depp has officially filed an appeal against Heard, who was awarded $2 million in their headline-grabbing trial over the summer.
While Johnny Depp was awarded over $10 million after Amber Heard defamed him, Heard herself was awarded $2 million after it was found that Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, also defamed the actress. However, Depp isn’t letting that $2 million end up in Davey Jones’s Locker. According to Johnny Depp’s legal team, “the trial court was confronted with a number of novel and complex legal and factual issues, and although the trial court decided the vast majority of those issues sensibly and correctly, a few rulings were erroneous.” They supported the claim, saying, “Ms. Heard presented no evidence at trial that Mr. Depp was personally involved in directing or making any of the three Waldman Statements.”
The defamation trial, which ended in June, found that Amber Heard had to pay “$10.35 million in damages to Depp after it was ruled that she defamed the actor when she wrote a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post alluding to past claims of domestic violence.” It also awarded Heard the aforementioned $2 million.
While Johnny Depp is a multimillionaire, $2 million is $2 million. According to reports, Depp can spend upwards of that a month. The partial breakdown goes like this: $300,000 on personal staff, $200,00 on a private jet, $150,000 on security, and $30,000 on wine–wow, that is a lot of Franzia!
Tubi’s movie about the trial, Hot Take, was released on September 30th, less than four months after the verdict.
