I hate bugs. I know I’m a guy and I’m supposed to be macho and tough and all that… but I hate bugs. I don’t run away from them or anything, but they creep me out. I’d actually take enjoyment in smashing one if it enters my general vicinity. So needless to say any movie that features an abundance of bugs has me cringing more than all this torture porn stuff we’ve gotten used to over the years. For example… the cockroach scene from CREEPSHOW (above)… No thanks!
So when I hear from Variety that there’s a thriller heading our way called THE COLONY that is described as THE BIRDS … but with bugs… you can imagine how ‘excited’ I am. Vertigo Entertainement and Participant Media scooped up the pitch for THE COLONY from Stacy Title and Jonathan Penner and have already tapped David Leslie Johnson to pen the script!
Now if Johnson’s name doesn’t ring any bells don’t worry… it soon will! The former assistant to Frank Darabont has a couple things coming up that may just catch your attention! First up is this Friday’s OPRHAN followed by the upcoming remake of Austalia’s LAKE MUNGO. So Johnson’s well on his way! We’ll keep an eye out for any other updates for THE COLONY, or LAKE MUNGO for that matter, so be sure to keep it here!
