Jon Watts believes a Spider-Man/Venom crossover would be pretty special

Spider-Man, Venom

The character of Venom is so intertwined with Spider-Man that it seemed like a recipe for disaster when Sony Pictures moved forward with their Spidey-less VENOM movie, but the Ruben Fleischer film proved to be an enormous success and a sequel is now in development. However, that's not to say that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Venom (Tom Hardy) won't cross paths in the future.

We're mere days away from the premiere of SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, and director Jon Watts spoke with ComicBookMovie.com about a variety of Spider-Man related topics, including whether the two franchises can successfully merge. Some have believed that VENOM is too different to be combined with SPIDER-MAN, but that's not a feeling which Watts shares.

I found Venom to be so funny and I thought Tom Hardy was so great, I don't know that they are so different. I think you put those two Toms together and you're going to see something pretty special.

The thought of these two characters being brought together definitely has the potential to be something amazing, if done right; we've certainly seen what happens when Venom and Spider-Man are shoe-horned together when the passion isn't there. VENOM director Ruben Fleischer is someone who would be pumped for a Spider-Man/Venom crossover, as he's previously said that not being able to include Spidey in his film was a big disappointment. "I think there's a pretty obvious one inherent to the Venom franchise that for whatever reason couldn't be included in the film but I will say that I look forward to future movies where said character could perhaps run across Venom," Fleischer said. "Nothing would be more exciting to see than a face off with Spider-Man."
